Sultan of Sokoto Calls for Moon Sighting Ahead of Ramadan 1446AH

The Sultan of Sokoto has announced that Friday, 28th February 2025, corresponding to the 29th day of Sha’aban 1446AH, will be the first day to look for the new moon of Ramadan 1446AH.

In a press release signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, the Sultan urges Muslims across the country to be vigilant and report any sighting of the new moon.

The sighting of the new moon marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Ramadan, a sacred period of fasting, prayers, and reflection for Muslims worldwide. The Sultanate Council will officially declare the start of Ramadan based on verified moon sighting reports.

Muslims are encouraged to participate in the moon sighting exercise and report credible sightings to the designated contacts.
