Makinde Presents Staff of Office to New Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade
In a historic ceremony held at the Exco Chambers of the Governor’s office, Secretariat Agodi Ibadan, on Monday 13th January 2025, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, presented the staff and instrument of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade.
Governor Makinde reaffirms the significance of the Alaafin Stool to the Yoruba people, emphasizing that it is not for sale. He pledges to uphold the integrity of the stool, ensuring that politics does not compromise its value. Makinde also highlights his administration’s success in resolving various traditional throne conflicts, warning that any attempts to monetize the revered stool would face consequences.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Abimbola Owoade pledges to serve his people diligently, upholding the cultural values of the Yoruba race. The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Ademola Ojo, acknowledges Governor Makinde’s unwavering support, saying his vision and support were instrumental in making the event a reality.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo-Lawal, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, High Chiefs from Oyo Town, religious leaders, and Prof. Wande Abimbola, the revered Ifa Custodian who performed Ifa divination for Owoade’s selection.
This development marks a significant milestone in Oyo State’s history, ushering in a new era of leadership and cultural preservation, as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade is expected to play a crucial role in promoting the cultural heritage and traditions of the Yoruba people.
