Gomez Handles Threatening Fertility Health Issues Courageously

A child is the joy of motherhood. In life, one of the things that defines a married woman is in her ability to bear children. Every married woman’s dream is not just to have a lovely and faithful husband, but to also have children to call her own. Ever wondered how a woman can be so strong and resilient to carry a child in her womb for 9 months, and face the labor pain head on on the day of delivery? It is because all her long wait and labor pain is worthwhile the moment she is able to carry her child in her hands. Every woman wants to experience this.

Unfortunately, not all women will be able to bear their own children due to many reasons. One major reason can be linked to health issues. These health issues ranges from diabetes, high blood pressure, Infections, hormonal imbalance, among others. On Monday 9th September, Selena Gomez, an American actress and singer, revealed in a published cover story interview with Vanity Fair, how her medical issues have prevented her from being able to safely get pregnant, thus, won’t be able to bear children. The American actress and singer added that she “grieved” when she found out that she won’t be able to have a safe pregnancy.

The 32-year-old superstar had in the past battled with alot of health crisis of which she informed the public about. She publicized in 2013 that she had been diagnosed with lupus, which is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects various parts of the body. In basic terms, one immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues and organs, causing inflammation and damage to affected areas. Sadly, lupus can’t be completely cured but can be managed with proper medications. In 2017, Gomez had a kidney transplant which was linked to the lupus disease. Similarly, the singer had been open in her documentary, My Mind and Me, about living with bipolar disorder, and in 2022, told Rolling Stone that she may not be able to have a safe pregnancy, due to the medication she takes to treat bipolar. Moving forward to 9th September, she confirmed this health issues has diverted from her initial expectations and affected her vision of starting a family.

However, Gomez has been opened to trying out other available options to have children of her own. She disclosed earlier this year, in an interview with Times magazine, that she would adopt a child when she was 35, not minding if she doesn’t have a romantic partner. In her interview with Vanity Fair, she also mentioned considering surrogacy or adoption.

“It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” she said.

She added, “But, I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

Last December, the superstar publicly confirmed her romantic relationship with music producer, Benny Bianco. In her words, “I’ve never been loved this way, He’s just been a light. A complete light in my life. He’s my best friend. I love telling him everything”.

Conclusively, life doesn’t always turn out to be the way we want it to. Whatever the case may be, we should be brave enough like Selena Gomez to make brave decisions and not just accept whatever life throws at us. Recall that wherever there is a will, there is a way. The lovers of Gomez can only hope she finds the real joy of motherhood with whatever decision she and her partner make concerning having children and building a family together.
