Federal Executive Council Announces Recess, Free Transportation, and University Renaming
The Federal Executive Council, chaired by President Bola Tinubu, has announced a recess from December 18, 2024, to January 6, 2025. The announcement came after a council meeting held on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. During the recess, no council meetings will be conducted.
2025 Budget Discussion
At the final meeting before the break, the council deliberated on the 2025 national budget. President Tinubu is expected to present the proposed budget to the National Assembly in the coming weeks.
Free Transportation for Holiday Travelers
In a move to ease holiday travel, the government declared free transportation for citizens from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This initiative aligns with previous government efforts to provide free travel services during major festive periods such as Sallah and Christmas.
University of Abuja Renamed
Additionally, the council approved renaming the University of Abuja after former military head of state General Yakubu Gowon. This decision will be presented to the National Assembly for legislative approval.
The council expressed its commitment to ensuring smooth governance even during the recess and urged Nigerians to enjoy the holiday season peacefully.
