Court Arraigns House Agent for Swindling Church
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State has prosecuted a house agent, Oni Alakotan on Thursday for defrauding the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) of N200, 000.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Ishola Samuel, stated in court that the defendant committed the offences with other persons, who were on the run, in November, 2018 at 30, Airport Road, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos.
He added that Alakotan committed the offense with the false claim of using the money to rent a mini-warehouse for the Church. “Alakotan diverted the money to his personal use after he promised the Church to rent out the warehouse.
“The offence contravened the provisions of Sections 411, 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”Samuel stated.
Alakotan, who resides in Mafoluku, Lagos, is facing a three count charge of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretenses and stealing. The suspect however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Herald reports that the Magistrate, F.O. Hughes, granted the defendant bail to tune of N50, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
Hughes further demanded that the sureties must be employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case has been adjourned to 27th of May for further hearing.
