Attahiru Bafarawa Resigns from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

In a significant political development, Alhaji (Dr.) Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, the former Governor of Sokoto State and a notable member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally resigned from the party. His resignation was conveyed in a letter dated January 8, 2025, addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP and officially stamped by the party’s office on January 13, 2025.

Bafarawa, who has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and a key contributor to the PDP, states that his decision was borne out of a personal commitment to embark on a “new chapter of service” aimed at uplifting humanity, particularly by empowering the youth.

Reflecting on his years in the PDP, he acknowledges the party’s significant role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and its contributions to nation-building. However, he emphasizes his recent dedication to a youth-focused movement aimed at inspiring and transforming the lives of young Nigerians, who he describes as “the bedrock of our nation’s future.”

In the letter, Bafarawa expresses a desire to avoid any conflict of interest arising from his political affiliations. He states that his focus moving forward would be on fostering youth empowerment, innovation, and promoting values that build a prosperous future for all.

Bafarawa expresses gratitude to the PDP leadership and members for the opportunities provided to him to contribute to the party’s ideals. He also commends their efforts in promoting democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

As he transitions to this new phase of his life, Bafarawa extends his best wishes to the PDP and reiterates his commitment to national development through his new platform.

This resignation marks a pivotal moment in Nigerian politics, as Bafarawa’s departure from the PDP could signal shifts in political alliances and youth-focused initiatives in the country.

Observers will be watching closely to see the impact of Bafarawa’s resignation and his next steps in the Nigerian political landscape.
