PDP More Resilient Than Any Individual, Damagum Warns Social Media Handlers Against Falsehoods

The Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagum, has issued a stern warning to social media handlers and bloggers, cautioning them against spreading falsehoods and misinformation capable of destabilizing the party. He emphasizes that the PDP, as a political institution, is stronger than any individual attempting to sow division.

Damagum, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Hon. Yusuf Dingyadi, makes this statement at the conclusion of a two-day capacity-building workshop held in Birnin Kebbi for social media handlers from the Northwest States. Organized by a PDP support group, the workshop focused on promoting effective media awareness and fostering peace within the political arena.

Addressing the participants, Damagum urges them to remain committed to disseminating the party’s manifestos and visions, stressing that the PDP leadership would not tolerate actions that breed hatred, division, or political instability. He reaffirms the party’s resolve to uphold unity, forgiveness, and discipline while steering clear of propaganda and internal discord.

“The PDP is more resilient than any individual trying to destroy it. We will not allow internal crises, leadership disharmony, or self-centered interests to undermine the unity and progress of our party,” Damagum states.

He also urges party elites and leaders across the country to focus on building a disciplined and cohesive PDP, in line with the founding fathers’ vision. Damagum condemns attempts to ignite internal strife for personal gain and calls for concerted efforts to protect the party’s legacy.

Earlier, Dr. Suleiman Aliyu-Gafai, Head of Media Mobilization and Political Awareness of the PDP Supporters Group in Nigeria, criticizes ongoing leadership challenges within the party, describing them as disappointing and contrary to the party’s core ideals. He calls on Northern leaders to rally together to strengthen the PDP as a formidable platform for national progress.

The workshop, attended by over 50 participants from Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States, featured presentations on digital leadership challenges, historical insights on PDP’s contributions, and strategies to foster unity in the party. It was facilitated by the Northern Professionals in Politics and Development (NOPDE).

Dr. Gafai also highlights the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections, particularly in the Northern region, as evidence of the PDP’s enduring popularity. He urges social media handlers to focus on positive narratives that showcase the party’s achievements and vision for Nigeria’s future.

The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from participants to uphold party unity and avoid actions that could tarnish the PDP’s image.
