Sultan of Sokoto Declares Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as the First Day of Rajab 1446 AH

In an official announcement released by the Secretary of the Moon Sighting Committee (MSC), Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has declared Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as the first day of Rajab in the Islamic year 1446 AH.

The declaration follows the sighting of the crescent moon in line with Islamic tradition, marking the commencement of the sacred month of Rajab. This month holds significant spiritual importance in the Islamic calendar as one of the four sacred months during which acts of worship and reflection are emphasized.

Muslims across Nigeria and the broader Islamic world are encouraged to observe this holy period with devotion, prayers, and acts of kindness. The Sultan, as the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, extends his prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity for the nation and the global Muslim community.

The Moon Sighting Committee remains committed to ensuring accuracy in the Islamic calendar and appreciates the cooperation of faithful observers nationwide.

Rajab is also a precursor to the holy month of Ramadan, reminding the faithful to prepare spiritually and physically for the upcoming period of fasting and heightened devotion.
