NDLEA Kano Secures Landmark Conviction: 12 Drug Peddlers Sentenced in One Day

In a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has secured the conviction of 12 drug peddlers in a single day. The verdict was delivered on December 13, 2024, by Hon. Justice S.A. Amobeda of the Federal High Court 1, sitting in Kano.

The convicted individuals were found guilty of running drug trafficking operations at the infamous Filin Idi drug den, a known hotspot for illicit drug activities in the state. Each of the 12 offenders received a three-year prison sentence without the option of a fine, reflecting the seriousness of their crimes.

Among the convicts was Lawan Sani Hobe, who had been on the run for 10 months after assaulting an NDLEA officer during an operation. His arrest marked a breakthrough for the agency, and he was handed an additional two-year sentence for the assault, resulting in a total of five years behind bars.

The NDLEA describes the convictions as a milestone in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse. Commander Abubakar Idris Ahmad of the NDLEA Kano State Command reaffirms the agency’s commitment to ensuring a drug-free society by bringing offenders to justice.
