Cleric Arrested Over Missing Church Fund

A Roman Catholic Priest at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in South Hutchinson, Kansas, Juan Gregorio Garza-Gonzalez is in police custody over a $14,000 missing church fund.

Giantability News gathered that Reno County Sheriff’s office in a news release stated that the 51-year-old Garza-Gonzalez was arrested on Thursday.

Reports credited to Hutchinson News reveals that the Catholic Diocese of Wichita contacted Reno County authorities in February inquiring about finances of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

Father Garza-Gonzalez has been pastor at the church since June 2018 and became the focus of investigation after the Diocese approached law enforcement officials about the questionable finances.

The priest, who in March was relieved of his duties, was released on a $2,500 own recognizance bond, the sheriff’s office revealed.

Garza-Gonzalez is no longer listed on the diocese website and priest’s directory, though his name still appears in archived versions of the site.

Wichita Bishop, Carl Kemme in a letter issued to parishioners, notified them of the pastor’s removal and the diocese’s cooperation into the investigation of the missing funds.

According to the letter, he said, “The diocese will see to it that the parish is made whole on the loss.”

However, no further court date has been set.
