Archbishop of Canterbury Prays for Free and Fair Elections in Nigeria

Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby has aired his view regarding Saturday’s postponed general election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria praying for the exercise to be free and fair.

Archbishop Welby who made this known in a post on his verified Twitter account prayed that the country experiences a free and fair election following newly fixed dates for the elections.

The Archbishop, according to Giantability News, appealed to the presidential candidates from different political parties to accept election results by the electoral body.

Quoting his tweet, it read: “Today I join with Nigerians to pray for peaceful, free, credible, transparent & fair elections on the new dates.

“May participants be able to accept the result and may their great and gifted nation find peace, prosperity, security and hope for all citizens.”

The INEC had on Saturday, few hours before the polls, rescheduled the Presidential election to now hold on Feb. 23rd, while governorship election will hold on March 9.

The postponement has since generated ill feelings from both Nigerians and the international community.
