Man Remanded for Robbing Pastor
One Oguntayo Moses has appeared before an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court over the weekend for allegedly conspiring with four others, now at large, to rob a pastor of church money.
The 23-year-old Moses of Offa Garage area, Ilorin, Kwara State, was slammed with a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, being a member of a secret cult and belonging to a gang of thieves.
Narrating his ordeal, the victim, Pastor Raphael Adeyemi disclosed that on November 23, 2018, he reported the case at the state’s Federal Special Anti -Robbery Squad (F-SARS), stating that the accused and his accomplices robbed him and some of the church members of money and other valuables.
The pastor recounted that he and four of his members were returning from the church when a five-man gang attacked and robbed them of a sum of N41,000 belonging to the church along with his GSM handset valued at N52,000.
According to the police, immediately the report was made, the victim was taken to the hospital to get medical attention after being inflicted with injuries on his head by the hoodlums.
Upon report of the incident, the police stated that a team of F–SARS went to the hoodlum’s hideout at Agbo -Ile, Offa – Garage, Ilorin where the accused was arrested on December 7, 2018. His cohorts however escaped and jumped into a stream within the neighbourhood.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that during interrogation, the accused, also known as Moskid, had confessed to the crime.
The FIR added that the offence contravened Sections 6 B , 1 (1 ) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision ) Act Cap RII , Law of the Federation , 2004 ; 1 (3 ) of the Kwara State Secret Cult and Society, Act 2014 and 306 of the Penal Code Law .
The prosecutor, Inspector Alhassan Jubril, stated that investigation into the case was still in progress and urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending outcome of the investigation.
Magistrate I. O Olawoyin ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison Yard, Ilorin until the next adjourned date.
